Cancerbackup Jersey's Partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support
Cancerbackup Jersey is delighted to announce, with the unanimous agreement of the Committee, that after careful discussion and deliberation and, formal agreements between the two parties, Cancerbackup Jersey has entered into a partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support (one of the largest Cancer Charities in the UK) and the new partnership will be dual branded for a period of 2 years. The structure of the charity has been changed in so far as they have set up a company, limited by guarantee. The company is called Macmillan Cancer Support (Jersey) Limited but will be known as Macmillan Cancer Support (Jersey) or Macmillan Jersey. It can also be referred to as Macmillan Cancer Support (Jesey) Limited (formerly Cancerbackup Jersey).
Macmillan Cancer Support (Jersey) will continue to operate from Cancerbackup Jersey's drop in Centre at the Lido de France, where the staff offer Information, Understanding and Support on all aspects of cancer, not only to patients, but also families, friends and colleagues.. The partnership which is a significant milestone in the history of the charity in Jersey will ensure that everyone in Jersey who is affected by cancer will get faster and enhanced access to high-quality information at every stage of their cancer journey. The service will continue to operate in exactly the same way in which it has operated within the island for the past 22 years, offering free and confidential information, support and practical advice to people affected by cancer, their families and friends. It also offers a Counselling service and a Prostate Cancer Support Group and will continue to distribute the cancer information booklets free of charge to the Oncology Department and the Breast Cancer Clinic as well as to individuals, upon request.
Macmillan Cancer Support (Jersey) continues to provide a cancer information service from a Drop-In Centre on the island. This service is available to all, including patients, their families,friends and carers, as well as health care professionals and is based at:
2nd Floor, Suite 2.5, Lido Medical Centre, St Saviour's Road,
St. Saviour, JE2 7LA.
The opening hours are:
Weekdays: 10 am to 4 pm N.B. except Bank Holidays.
Saturdays: 10 am to 1 pm
Free car parking, with a lift and disabled access is available.
Serviced by Bus Routes: 21 and 23 from Liberation Station.
The Macmillan Jersey Cancer Information Nurse Specialist provides cancer information, practical advice and emotional support which is free, independent, confidential and up to date.
The Macmillan Jersey Cancer Information Nurse Specialist can explain and clarify medical terms and give information about all types of cancer and the different treatments used. The nurse can help you cope with the symptoms, side effects and other aspects of cancer.
